The ‘Brook’ watercolours
attempt to interpret the relationship between the surface
light and the underworld
beneath it. Because the speed of the
water varies, light on the surface is sometimes seen
as white streaks of a
calligraphic nature.
The other watercolours were painted directly
from the landscape and were quick intuitive responses to
changing conditions of light and mood.
