Work in progress - (oil on canvas - each 20cmx 25cm)
Using shadows as metaphors for memory, loss, and absence, these new paintings depict collars belonging to, and worn by my late mother in the 1930's and 1940's. They attempt to convey the weight and feeling of questions unasked and unanswered in a complicated relationship through time. The reduced colour and use of a restricted palette further this, with the intention of creating an ambiguous relationship to the past..
